21. Land of Sombreros and Tequila

27th December 2013, Cancun Airport, Mexico

After 24 amazing hours in Dallas, it was time to move on to the sunny side of my trip. After a walk with the dogs, two breakfasts (was getting so spoilt in Dallas) and a coffee the size of my head, the lovely ex box dropped me off at the airport and off to Cancun I was. I even kicked things off in the Mexican restaurant at Dallas International.

At this stage I was getting more and more excited about my first trip to Mexico and my annual winter trip to the sun - God knows I needed it.
After having spent the last three winter trips in Thailand, I was very much looking forward to swapping Pad Thais, Tiger beers and Bahts for Burritos, Margaritas and Pesos.

Upon my arrival in sunny Mexico, it was pouring down. We're not talking a bit of London drizzle here, we're talking someone emptying massive buckets of water locally over wherever I stood constantly for hours.

Things grew increasingly depressing. Squeezed into a shuttle bus next to loved up honeymooners, being car sick and also still jet lagged, I was not loving life. Discovering that my debit card had also decided to cave in, did not help things.

In spite of being exhausted and very much over travelling, as soon as I arrived at our cliff side hotel right by the sea and being reunited with the bestie after 24 hours apart, things were looking increasingly improved.
And it got even better the minute I saw the world's most wonderful nieces waiting for me as we were off to dinner, rushing over to give me what are the best hugs in the world.

Finally arrived and settled in Mexico, I was ready for what I really came for... Burritos and Margaritas!

My lovely nieces on Isla Mujeres!
