Since the big Coffee Cut Down of 2013 I really do appreciate the one cup of coffee I allow myself now.
As the four daily Starbucks visits a day that used to be routine are officially finished, I pick my daily caffeine kicks with extreme care. Being on first name basis with the baristas at Taylor Street and Nude is not enough, there are still too many quality, expert coffee blenders to try out in the coffee mecca that is London.
All Press Espresso with it's lovely little roastery on the quirky Redchurch Street was definitely up there. Originating in New Zealand I knew I would be in for a treat - those Kiwis really do know their coffee.
I like my coffee hot and strong, preferably it should be so intense it nearly knocks you off your seat at the first sip. I am not satisfied until my energy matches the level of a 3 year old having accidentally drunken their mom's red bull. All Press is almost there in terms of my high expectations and that is a huge compliment coming from me. Actually, never mind the first sip, it was the first whiff and I felt all of my powers returning again.
I have once suffered from morphine withdrawal after two weeks of painful agony in hospital when my pump broke down. We're talking the shakes, screaming, crying and trying to break out of my hospital bed before they managed to get the pump going again and me back to a normal state of human. And as bad as that was, them switching that pump back on is nothing compared to the revival from a good cup of coffee in the morning.
To quote a certain Agent Dale Cooper, damn that's a good cup of coffee!
